Disgusting Capitalist Fat Cats

Still living in a fantasy world where elected officials aren’t simply tools of their campaign contributors? Go through this slashdot article about cell phone contracts in a postwar Iraq. The war is costing lives every day, and at home we’re dreaming up ways to stick it to the EU by favoring American-style CDMA over the more global GSM standard for cell phones. This comes on the heels of hearing how Halliburton (which pays Dick Cheney $1 million dollars a year) “won” a lucrative oil infrastructure contract in Iraq. And now, Congressman Darrell Issa (who introduced the CDMA bill) shows much of the same pork-barrel spirit, as Qualcomm (CDMA provider) has a strong presence in his district, and donated money to his campaign. Gee, what a surprise.
Again, I’m becoming disillusioned with the current media coverage. The American Press has learned the most important lesson of Propaganda, paraphrased here from Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World: The most effective propaganda tool is not what you’re telling the people, it is what you’re not telling the people.
